Prom Queen

Jill over at Peeptoe Pumps and Pearls is hosting a trip down memory lane to all of us girly girls who want to reminisce about our prom days way back when...

Here are the rules...
1. Upload your prom picture.
2. Don't forget to include the year it was taken. Again, don't be shy. The older the better.
3. Grab the "Prom Queen" button on my sidebar and add to your post. Isn't the button adorable? Thank you Danielle, The Design Girl. You must check out her fabulous sale!
4. Copy and Paste the rules to your blog
5. Tag 5 others!

This first one is not me, for good measure and just for fun I've included a picture of my mom and dad at their Senior Prom...that would be 1965 I think! Of course I love the fact they were High School Sweet Hearts and I think they are adorable!
This one is my first prom...1992. The traumatic thing about my first prom is...shhhhh don't tell, but I did. not. have. a. date!!!!! I was so upset, but never fear because I have lots of good looking cousins!!!!!!! This is my cousin, TW, and I think he was about 14 years old! Nobody knew he was my cousin and honestly, I think my table had the most fun! He is the kind of guy you want around in potentially stressful situations like the prom because he is a blast! Even at 14 years old he was entertaining everyone and in his element with 17 and 18 year olds!! I should say that I went to a private school and we didn't actually dance...so it was called a banquet. We had dinner and a slide show and I guess that was it. Just in case anyone was wondering if I danced with my cousin...I'm not from that part of the country!

But, the hysterical pink sequin dress has a story too...besides the 60" wide shoulder puffs. I saw this dress in a prom magazine and tore out the picture to add to my wish list. I love pink and of course at the time those sequins and puff sleeves were attractive. I was shocked one Saturday when mom and I was shopping for my dress(yes...shopping for a dress with no date!) and we came across this dress in a boutique. It was a size 4...obviously not my size at any point in my life. But they special ordered my size and it was really the only dress I tried on that year. I still have the magazine clipping and the funny thing is my mom has a magazine clipping for her dress in the photo above! We both shop through magazines to find what we love!

This was my Senior prom, 1993. Again, I was dateless! These are my two best friends from high school and we all just piled in the car and went stag. Honestly, we had a great time. We sat at the teachers table and laughed with them and really enjoyed it. I think I may be the only 18 year old in the world that would have enjoyed that, but I've always been an "old soul"...or as my friends call me I'm just a 'granny' at heart!

Chances of Swine Flu...

The fabulous and always inspiring Stephanie over at Ni Hao Y'all posted this and I thought it was so funny I had to post it on my blog as well! We need to come down to reality, don't you think?

Chance of being killed by lightning: 1 in 2,320,000
Chance of a meteor landing on your house: 1 in 182,138,880,000,000
Chance of dying from contact with hot tap water: 1 in 5,005,564
Chance of drowning in a bathtub: 1 to 685,000
Chance of getting hemorrhoids: 1 to 25
Chance of being killed by swine flu: 1 in 1,400,000,000 (approximately)

We had the first suspected case of swine flu reported in Tennessee yesterday. They are 95% sure it is actually swine flu and is a student at a local private school. The school is closing for 7 days. I thought about how this is about the only time I DON'T want my school system to close down because we are a mere 15 days away from the last day of school. Plans are made and the countdown has begun. But, if we begin having cases of the swine flu in our county it could delay the close of school and make us come until June...gasp! I'm making my kids wash their hands about 27 times a day, I'm using antibacterial gel on top of that, and we're cleaning our desks/rooms with disinfecting wipes each day. Oh, I hope we make it through our last 3 weeks without an outbreak!

Before you start leaving any comments about my insensitivy to a deadly illness just consider yourself on day 150ish of being couped up with 23 - 8 and 9 year olds! I need my 10 weeks of freedom, people! With that said, I hope you and your family stay healthy! Oink, Oink!

26 Months Paper Pregnant

I'm 26 months paper pregnant today. The weight gain and back aches are killing me!!!!!!!!!!! I have to laugh about the extended wait time or else I'd cry about it everyday. It's too much for any human to cognitively understand and definitely too much to emotionally deal with. Somewhere in China my daughter is born or will be born and I'm here in America ready to take her in...and yet I wait. What is the Lord trying to teach me? What is he trying to build within my character, I wonder? I have this quote at my desk at school and it helps me daily to be reminded that HE hasn't forgot about me...

"Every minute you are waiting, GOD is working!"

Easter Day

Eddie is eating jellybeans in this first picture! It was so funny, I think he had about 4 in his mouth at once! The dessert table is always the best, right? I made a tangerine cake which was out of the Paula Deen April '08 Magazine. It was so moist and delicious. The kids and I made the cupcakes yesterday and Granny made the coconut cake with a birds nest in the middle. We bought beautiful tulips from Walmart for $5.00/bouquet. What a great deal!
This was last weekend at the Easter Egg Hunt. Eddie played in the dirt (and ate a little too!) when we came back home!

We had a great Easter Day. I have stopped this evening to take a moment and give thanks to God for all of my blessings that he so richly has given me. Often times I am so busy (especially holidays) and I'm always working toward the next 'step' in life that I forget to give him thanks for what he's already done. During this season I'm especially reminded of forgiveness that only Jesus could give me. I'm so thankful that as a child I had a family who instilled Christian values in me and taught me the true meaning of holidays like Easter. I am thankful for my family, my home, my job, and all of my friends who mean so much to me! I'm looking forward with great expectation to what the Lord will do in my life from this moment on. I hope your Easter Day was full of joy!

Happy Easter!

I'm wishing you all a very happy and blessed Easter Day!
I've had a busy week even though we had Friday off for Good Friday. Sometimes 4 day weeks are the longest! We ended the week with a field trip and field trip days are always tiring! At dismissal there was a mysterious smoke smell in the building and the Principal called the Fire Dept. They sent out no less than 12 fire trucks and 2 ambulances...closed the road... all. during. dismissal! Can you say crazy??? The parents could not get to the kids to pick them up, nobody could really leave, it was a mess! There was never a fire, it turned out something in a mechanical room had started to burn, but they caught it in time which I'm so thankful for...but did it really require 12 fire trucks? Seriously, I wish I had taken a picture for you all to see, because you would have thought the school had burned completely down!
Friday I took my grandmother to a couple doctor appointments. She seems to be doing good:) as we were running through some quick errands we were inadvertently in the middle of the tornado coming through Middle Tennessee!! We hadn't heard the warnings and didn't even know what was going on, but thank goodness it was really only a hard rain but we were only about 5 miles from serious tornado damage. So scary! The twisters damaged or destroyed at least 250 houses in Murfreesboro, TN and took 2 lives and injured many more. My heart goes out to all of those people who lost their homes or loved ones in the tornadoes.
Today I went to see a house that I really loved, but found out later a contract was accepted the day before I saw it...always a day late and a dollar short it seems. So now I'm switching gears to consider building a home here on some of my mom's land. If I build and move in by December I could still get the First Time home buyer tax credit. So I'm looking into it...Eddie and Amber are also looking into building out here. We have plenty of land thanks to my dad and grandpa and building on our land is something I always wanted to do, but thought financially it may be out of my reach. It may be, I will wait and see.
Finally this afternoon I began preparing for Easter dinner. We had Madison and Eddie over to help with Easter cupcakes...you know the cute green colored coconut as "grass" and jelly beans as "eggs". We had an egg hunt (for the 10th time this season!).

Fun Day!

I took the day off today for a "me" day! I got a hair cut and hi-lite for spring/summer. I always go 'blonder' for the warm weather and a bit more 'gold/honey' for fall and winter. Then, I headed downtown for our annual Southern Women's Show. It's such fun and this year I got to hear one of my favorite Reality TV show moms:

She is so cute and very tiny in person. I wanted to ask her how she kept her skin in great shape and keep a tan while living in Pennsylvania but they ran out of time. While there I spent $20 on an Ionic Cell Cleansing Foot Soak...have you ever done this? It's probably a scam but looked so intriguing I had to try it. Supposedly it draws out toxins from your feet to cleanse and detox the body but I'm not so sure. The water starts clean and then turns really gross! The residue tells you what is wrong with your body...supposedly! So according my results I have urinary toxins, joint toxins, gallbladder toxins, allergy by-product, cholesterol, and candida. I was more interested in what I can do to help prevent these things but I think the answer is drink more water, eat right, and exercise more! Who knew?

Tomorrow I'm off to an Easter Egg Hunt with Eddie and Maddie. Should be fun! I'll post pictures!!

so sad...

i heard today that i did not get the house:(. there were over 40 offers on this one house...it was only listed for one week. so i'm anxious to hear what it closes for. i hope it's like $10,000 more than my offer and not only $500 more; that would be devastating. but, i tried not to get my hopes up although i did 'decorate' it in my head. but, another one will come along. i'll stick to my original plan and take my time to look through the summer and definitely buy something before the end of the year...for the $8,000 tax credit!!
