Molly Day!!!!!

As luck would have it...today was Molly Day!!  One day early!!  We got up and flew out of Beijing to Jiangxi Province and met our guide, Mary.  We were not supposed to get Molly until Tuesday, but Mary said..."the babies are coming at 4:00"  I said, "today at 4:00?" and she said yes!  So I frantically had 1 hour to get to the hotel, bet unpacked, prepare for a baby, give Eddie his camera lessons and further instructions, dress, put on makeup, and look decent before I met my child!  ha!  It was very hot and our hotel room was a sauna.  Since I was sweating and so hot I decided against makeup and kept on my cooler tshirt although not the outfit I had planned for Molly Day.  I didn't think she would care.

We are with one other couple and their baby came first.  I went next door to visit with them and to see her and as I was in the hallway here came Molly walking in between a man and woman, holding each of their hands.  She was SO CUTE!  Dressed in a new outfit, new shoes, and her hair all pulled up adorably.  She saw me and immediately started SCREAMING and crying!  The people with her tried to tell her "mama" but she pushed away and would have nothing to do with the "transfer"!  Eddie was filming and trying to take pictures and I was trying everything in my bag of tricks to coax her into coming to me...bubbles, cheerios, toys, NOTHING helped.  The man and woman left quickly since she was so upset and I got NO information from them about her eating, sleeping, or anything else.  It was a super quick "transfer"!  She calmed down a bit when we went into the hallway, then downstairs to the lobby.  All the while Eddie was trying to film, take pictures, and get the hotel workers to check our a/c!  Hurray for him, because he finally got them to come and repair something and our room is now super cool with a fan!  We think that made Molly happy!

After she cried for about 2 hours she finally calmed down and even smiled when we got out the bubbles again and showed her how to pop them in the air.  We did this for about 30 minutes, thanks to Eddie for continuing to blow them.  We went down to the hotel restaurant and at supper ( I didn't eat b/c I wasn't hungry...too much excitement for one day!) and Molly ate some noodles and oranges.  She wouldn't take her formula, she acted like she did want a bottle but tried it and pushed it back.  I'm sure it's so different from what she's used to she didn't like it.

She would not go to sleep in her crib, I didn't force it b/c she's had such a traumatic day so she's sleeping in my bed.  She was so exhausted!

She is so adorable and seems to have great hair:)!!  She is wearing a size 18 month clothes probably b/c the 24 month sleeper pj's are too big on her.  She is very smart (of course!), but really knew what was up the whole time.  She was frightened and didn't want the familiar faces of the orphanage workers to leave her.  I held her close the entire time and she would look at me, carefully studying my face.  I'm hoping she realizes I'm good and safe.  She would not eat in a high chair at dinner either.  She's been pretty attached to me and afraid to be put down except to play a little bit.  I'm hoping for good rest tonight and a good day tomorrow.  In the morning we meet with the orphanage director for some paperwork and hopefully he can tell me more about her.

Here are some pictures and I'll post more as soon as I can.  If anyone has tips on attachment, feel free to post especially if you had a child who was cautious and skeptical at first!!  If you are commenting on facebook I can read your comments via my email but I cannot respond b/c I cannot get onto facebook.  I can read blogger comments via email also.

Oh, it can be so hard at first. Give her time and space, but be present. She will come around, but it may take a while. Letting her sleep in your bed was a good decision. I'll pray for both of you. She is so precious.

A day early!! Yahoo!! It was so fun to check in today to see pictures of you and Molly! I'm glad things got better throughout the day. Give it a few days- you'll see a different child on day 3 or 4 than you're seeing right now. Have a wonderful time getting to know each other. CONGRATS on finally being able to hold YOUR daughter!

She is a cutie. You look like you have great hair and so does she! Her hand looks exactly like the hand of a child we adopted. At that point I had no idea it was ABS. Congratulations Mama! Be patient - she is getting used to round eyes, blonde hair, so many differences. We moved to a new country when I was 5. Although I was with my family, so much was baffling including wondering why people would reach out and touch my blonde hair and why they carried umbrellas when it was sunny out.

Congratulations again......

Oh my gosh, what a special day. I found saying mama the first few days made my daughter cry more because the foster moms often are "mama". It just takes time. What a joyous day. I will say extra prayers for you, Molly and Eddie. Take care, enjoy it will get easier. Molly is just beautiful.

Amy, I have tears rolling down my face! She is just beautiful and you are just beaming. I am so excited for you both to have found each other. Eddie is such a trouper and kudos to him for multitasking. She will do fine just give her a little bit to grieve. She is more alive than Maggie was so that is good. My only advice is to start with small items to play with - the bubbles are always a hit! The mirror was a lot of fun for Maggie too. As for eating, just hold her in your lap to eat. I did that some with Maggie and it was fine. She needs that closeness to you and of course you wont mind a bit!

Hopefully you are sleeping well tonight - who am I kidding, you aren't sleeping at all! LOL As for the bottle, try different temperatures and different nipples - large openings, etc. Do you have the formula she is used too? Maggie was on Nestle formula in China but once I got her to open up I started transitioning her to her US formula one scoop substituting at a time. She didn't have any problems taking it. I was lucky as Maggie took her bottle lukewarm instead of really hot. You will just have to try different temps. The biggest problem we had was constipation so keep a watch on that. We waited too long to intervene and bless her heart!

How is her grasping? Are her hands doing well? Maggie wouldn't eat cheerios or any finger foods and is just starting to now after 5 months home. It looks like Molly is enjoying those cheerios.

What great memories for you. I'm sorry you were rushed but you saved yourself from freaking out all night waiting to meet her! LOL Bright side maybe? LOL

Lean on Eddie to help you while you take care of Molly. She will begin to attach to you quickly as you are the only one - one benefit of being single. I love that you have already gotten a smile - that is awesome!

Thanks for the awesome pictures and commentary. I am so proud of you and know that your family is bursting with pride. Have fun and keep us updated when you can. Welcome to MOMMYHOOD.

Wow! She's such a cutie. The picture in front of the big window is so dear. She may have cried for hours, but she looks pretty comfortable there. I'm sorry it was such a rough transfer. I hope you are (or were, by now) able to get more information from the orphanage workers at the interview. Just keep holding her and babying her--that's the only advice I have right now. She will learn that you are her one mama and that you will always be there for her--you don't go off duty. :)

CONGRATS on your beautiful daughter! She is just precious!

We were the family in our (SN) travel group that had "The Screamer". For three days straight. Would not sit in a highchair for the first few days, etc. We just LOVED her. Carried her. Hand fed her. (Food and bottles) Bathed with her. Sat with her on our laps. Etc. You are doing everything she needs, just keep it up!

Try to enjoy these special moments. You deserve them! :)

Of course, I am beyond excited. Couldn't sleep yesterday, the day before and now, it's 4 am here and all I can do is look at this blog! She is doing great. do not be hard on yourself, I can tell by the pics, esp the one of her laying her head on your shoulder that everything is quite good.

You look so happy. I bet you already can't imagine life without her... or sleep, or having privacy, or...etc... hahahahaha

gotta go, gotta look at the pics, again!
